福建农林大学应用生态研究所成立于2003年3月。建所以来，我们本着立足国内，面向世界的指导思想，围绕农业资源与环境的可持续利用、农业生态安全、农田生态系统健康管理等问题，运用生态学和分子生物学等的方法，开展生物多样性与害虫生态控制、昆虫功能基因组学与分子生态学、外来有害生物治理和转基因生物安全性、农业污染生物修复等研究，为推动科技进步、经济建设和社会发展做贡献。
应用生态研究所现有研究人员85人，其中包括博士后研究人员、科研助理、在学的博士研究生和硕士研究生。拥有一幢建筑面积2,750平方米的楼房，楼内设有会议室、办公室、学术报告厅和功能比较齐全的实验室，包括生物化学与分子生物学实验室、昆虫行为实验室、微生物实验室、生物分类室等；在校园内有1座温室和网室。经有关部门批准，负责建设教育部批准建设的福建省首个国际合作联合实验室（害虫生态防控），国家外专局首批地方高校“高等学校学科创新引智计划”（“111”计划）基地、科技部“闽台作物害虫生态防控”国际科技合作基地、农业部闽台作物有害生物综合治理重点实验室、害虫绿色防控福建省高等学校重点实验、福建省闽台特色作物病虫生态防控协同创新中心、福建省昆虫学重点实验室、福建省农产品安全技术平台。
应用生态研究所近年来积极组织多学科协作，开展对外交流与合作，先后承担和主持国家、省（部）科研项目和国际合作项目100多项，编写了8部论著，发表论文260余篇，SCI收入80余篇，其中，小菜蛾基因组研究论文在国际顶级期刊Nature Genetics上发表；获得专利22项；制订地方标准4项。科研成果获国家科技进步二等奖1项；福建省科学技术奖一等奖2项，二等奖5项，三等奖2项；福建省标准贡献奖一等奖1项。尤民生教授获得何梁何利基金科学与技术进步奖、福建省科学技术奖最高奖等。我们将顺应国际化和全球化的发展趋势，继续寻求和发展与国内外有关单位和科技人员的合作与交流。

The Institute of Applied Ecology (IAE), Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), was founded in March 2003. We are working in all aspects of ecology and pest management, mainly focusing on the application of ecological principles, such as biological diversification to real field situations, in support of ecologically-based pest management in agro-ecosystems. The genetical control of insect pest is initiated to be integrated into the ecological control system based on the study of insect functional genomics.
FAFU-IAE houses 85 researchers, including postdoctoral fellows, PhD and MSc students. The institute is located in a five-floor research building of 2,750 m2 and includes five major laboratories: biodiversity and ecologically-based pest management, biochemistry and molecular biology, insect behavior and evolution, microbiology and bioremediation. In addition, the institute has access to a greenhouse-based building for growing plants and rearing insects, and an experimental station of agro-biodiversity on the Wuyi Mountains. Our institute is authorized to be the Joint International Laboratory of Ecological Control for Insect Pests, the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Ecological Pest Control for Fujian-Taiwan Crops, the Innovation and Talent Recruitment Center for Ecologically Based Pest Management of Subtropical Crops and the Key Laboratory of Green Control of Insect Pests.
Our research areas are currently centered on evolutionary and ecological mechanisms of host-pest-enemy interacting system, biodiversity manipulation in support of pest management in agro-ecosystems, genetical control of insect pests, ecologically based control of invasive alien species, ecological assessment of genetically-modified crops, bioremediation and healthy management of agro-ecosystems. Our primary research goals are to assess impacts of changes in species and habitat diversity in the fields, to develop new ecologically- and genetically-based pest management strategies, which, in addition to being ecologically sound, are reliable, effective, economical, practical and environmentally acceptable, and to find possible solutions to the healthy management of crops and agro-ecosystems.
Over the past more than 20 years, our group has been involved with a number of internationally-, nationally- and provincially-funded projects. FAFU-IAE will be going with the process of internationalization and globalization. We are therefore looking forward to developing partnership and cooperation with scientists or institutions in China and abroad.
